“Now that [Roslund] has locked Ewert Grens away and started anew, both his dedication and his joy of storytelling is intact. Mannen som slutade dö / The Man Who Quit Dying has high tempo and contains a number of nice twists—some you can see coming, others not. It is enormously skillfully composed. There’s a sense of impending doom throughout, and in many ways this is Anders Roslund’s darkest novel. Readers who are familiar with the Ewert Grens series will recognize themselves in the storyteller’s warmth and the glimpses of love that occur between characters … I don’t know when I last read anything like this. It is powerful and uncomfortable, at the same time difficult to put down, even though you need to pause and breathe sometimes to let it sink in that you are not living in the characters’ pressured world. I’m not hesitant to determine that [Mannen som slutade dö / The Man Who Quit Dying] is this year’s best Swedish crime novel.”
