“To describe characters who have done terrible acts – in an almost empathic manner – was a risk we took when we wrote the book. But literature is about transmitting emotions so that the reader feels something and then you have, as authors, to take the risk pushing the limit of what is moral or immoral. That is what we have done and I feel we have landed on the right side of the line.”
